Wait... you're actually reading this?!

I just finished reading The Last Command! Go me!

Thursday, May 30, 2002

Well, last night at about 8 pm I finished part 2 of the Thrawn trilogy, Dark Force Rising. By the time I got to bed, I had already read more than 100 pages for part 3, The Last Command. I hope to finish that one tonight.

In other news, I just got the Gen 13 movie. Woo hoo!

Well, I just finished my last class of the day, and boy, did it drag on... Of the four classes I had today, only my Vis Arts discussion class held my interest. Normally, it wouldn't, but today we had a two-team Jeopardy game that was really quite fun. Our team pulled ahead from being really, really behind to win the game 4601 to 2. Man, I love it when those final Jeopardy questions work out the way you want 'em to.

So I've noticed that nobody seems to have the right fonts to view my site. Well, I did some work to fix that. I put the fonts in a ZIP file you can get here. Just download and extract to your Fonts folder (something typically like "C:\WINDOWS\FONTS\"). Sorry, I know one of you out there uses a Mac (and you know who you are!), and I don't think if these fonts work on one.

Well, I had a busy weekend. Good thing it was a three-day weekend. Stuck in among a "party" for Phil Kim, two James Bond movies, and two Star Wars movies, I managed to get some reading done. Don't get me wrong, this reading wasn't for school (or else I wouldn't have read it!). No, what I read was some back issues of Gen 13 I hadn't bought before, and Heir to the Empire, the first Star Wars book in the Grand Admiral Thrawn trilogy. I hope to read the other two soon (I got 'em with me).

Three weeks, three weeks.... I am so not in work mode right now. I want this damn school year to end already!

The Ewok Adventure: Caravan of Courage

Ewoks: The Battle for Endor

Ah, the lost Star Wars movies... If ever you people are thinking about what to get me for a birthday or something, HERE'S AN IDEA!!!

Whew! I just finished writing two 5-page papers! Of course, those of you who know me well may realize that this is actually a little early for me to be finished. How about that!

My Vis Arts class is filled with Trekkers. This was best evidenced by about five people, including the professor, having a small debate about whether or not enclaves of artists in the Primitivism movement could be properly compared to the Borg. The response? In the professor's words, "It's a bit of a mixed metaphor, but I like it."

Man, I gotta start on my papers.

Well, I finally finished registering for classes (at least, for now...). Looks like I won't be able to declare my major until the middle of fall quarter though, sadly. Oh, well. Guess I should probably start working on those two 5-page papers I have due on Friday, huh?

From Samuel L. Jackson's interview on Starwars.com:

You think of George as having all this technical acumen because of all the things he's done and all the things they've accomplished at ILM. But I remember going to his house to watch the Star Wars trailer the first time. We were in a screening room, but he actually couldn't get his screening room to work. His son Jett had to come over and say, "No, Dad, you do it like this," and Jett manipulated some stuff and all of a sudden it was working. So you kind of go, "Oh, well he's just like me. When I have computer problems, I have to call my daughter. He had to call in Jett to get his screening room to work. [Laughing] This is George Lucas--he can't work a screening room. This is so cool!"

George Lucas, the man who pretty much invented modern special effects still needs help from his kids. That's just too funny.

In other news: 'Copy-Proof' CDs Cracked with 99-Cent Marker Pen. Boy, oh boy, I bet Sony's lovin' this!

Well, I finally got around to making another flash movie. Any of you who saw my X-Gals one know what kinda humor's in this one. This one deals with the Gen 13 ladies, though. E-mail me if you want to watch this, 'cause I won't be putting it up on this site.

In other news, my internet is so load it can't even load this page. So if you've left any comments since Friday, I haven't read them.

I got to register for fall classes today. Looks like I have to declare my major NOW if I want more than two classes come September.

Well, it's Sunday night (ok, well, technically Monday morning...) and I've already seen Star Wars twice. And you know what? I wasn't bored at all through the second showing. Mental note: Never piss off Yoda.

I've learned something today. Never underestimate the power of over the counter medicines. Sadly, though, the meds don't help everything. Evidently, I still have a fluctuating internal body temperature. That was a weird and somewhat gross discovery...

I feel like shit, man. It all started yesterday when I began coughing so much, my throat began to burn. Now muscles I haven't even used are aching, the sore throat's worse, I have a headache, and everytime I cough it feels like someone's jabbing daggers into my ribs. And my next class is on the otherside of campus! Ugh.

Yet another one of those boring days I have so often at UCSD. I put off seeing an academic adviser, and I have yet to sat on two papers due next week. I'm lazy, but don't try to change me, baby.

Got a quiz and the midterm back from Third World Studies today. Got 90% on both. Pretty good start, but i still have two more quizzes, an essay, and the final in that class to do.

Got me some Star Wars Episode II toys today. The lightsabers are cool. The beam detaches from the handle, and the handles are actually metal! The Jedi can hold onto them with magnets that were put into their hands. The Yoda's kinda funny. He comes with a lightsaber, but it's about half the size of a normal one.

Bring it on, Jango!!

"This is my rifle. There are many others like it but this one is mine...."

What is it about Full Metal Jacket? I saw it on Wednesday and there are so many references I've seen in pop culture that I now know the source of. But what's so appealing about this movie? Nothing really surprised me, but maybe that's more a testament to how often thim movie's been copied, I don't know... All I can say is I never want to go to boot camp.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like the first time a professor gets hold of a laser pointer? I got to find out today. It's pretty funny watching the teacher playing with a little light in front of hundreds of students. Whee!

Question for the day:
What technology did the Amish refuse to use in the nineteenth century?

Why is it that I can fall asleep easier in those horrible lecture chairs than I can in my bed? I have a theory: those chairs are so rigid and uncomfortable that they stop the flow of oxygen to the brain. That, when combined with boring professors lecturing occasionally with the lights out (showing slides, overheads, film clips, what have you), creates a perfect atmosphere to fall asleep. Well, not so much fall asleep as pass out. Oxygen deficits in the brain tend to have that effect... And when we're in bed? We're too comfortable and we've screwed up our internal clock so much that we're just not tired. Hmm... Maybe I could replace my bed with a lecture chair and see if I can get back to a normal sleeping schedule...

Random thoughts for today:

Man, this last quarter is weird. It's like the weeks go by fast, but the days just drag on. At least in high aschool, you could go home when you were done with classes. Here I have to wait 5 days.

I still have way too much money in my meal plan account.

I appreciate the concerns expressed by those of you who IMed me when I typed I was depressed. I'm ok. Really. Really! I just get homesick whenever I have to come back to UCSD. That and I still don't have housing or a girlfriend.

If I figure out which of the four companies represented on this page (Blogger, YACCs, Site Meter, and TopCities) is responsible for the pop-up ad, I'll try to replace it with another service that doesn't have one. I think I've determined it's not TopCities, though.

I realize I've got a pop-up ad appearing here. Doesn't look like there's much I can do with it right now, sadly.

It just occurred to me that I haven't made an entry for today. And you know what? I'm not gonna! BWA HA HA HA HA --

*Ahem* Excuse me. My evil persona was trying to come out there. I stuck him back in his little closet in my mind. We'll be good for another day or two.

I had my last midterm of the school year today. I'm not too sure how well I did on it, since I haven't done a lot of the reading, but I hope I bullshitted enough of a response to at least pass, if not do well. Other than that, I have a short two page paper to write for tomorrow, so i'll probably put that off until 11 at night.

I think I've had just about enough of this college thing for one year. It sucks, to be honest. I wanna go home.

Yesterday I went to Troy's play "Picnic." Honestly, I wasn't there for the play; I was there for the people I remembered from last year. And they remembered me. :-D It's nice to know people miss your contributions to Drama when you're not there. Apparently, Paul was on last night so most of the people in my year that I know went Thursday. Oh well, at least I got to go to the cast party. I had no involvement with the play and thel still let me go. Score! Actually, the same thing happened with "A Christmas Carol," too. It's nice to be able to hang out with these folks again.

Well, I had my first midterm today, in Vis Arts 22. There were four "essays" which turned out to be only 1 or 2 paragraphs to answer for each. (Side note: I hate it when they call short answer questions essays, don't you? Make you all worried and then you find out there's nothin' to worry about!) The other part was identifying 20 slides showing paintings: title, who painted it, and when. This was what I was seriously worried about. Now, it's not as if the prof had us trying to remember every painting from the Baroque to the Post-Impressionism periods, but he gave us a list to study from. Turns out only seven weren't on the test, and I think he showed 'em in the same order as on the list! Now, I only started studying these paintings oh, about 90 minutes before the midterm, but you know what? I rocked it! If I get anything wrong, it'll be for putting the wrong accents on the artists' names.

Happy May, everybody! I don't know exactly why you should be happy, but be happy, nonetheless!

Today I received my notice of when I can start scheduling classes for next quarter. Next fall quarter. Seems like it came a little early, but I guess it's to help us when we move into apartments and get jobs. If we know our class schedule already, it makes things easier, I suppose.

Oh, yeah. I have to fill out an international money order. Why, you ask? Something involving evil-bay.com. And no, for once, it isn't about G.I. Joes...
