Still no internet access, I'm afraid. My roommate, Justin, was kind enough to let me borrow his computer for this update. I just spent the last 6 hours putting together a film for my Vis 1 project due this week. It was the best way I could think of addressing pop art. I basically diluted the Star Trek films into those quotes from other authors that denote "serious" Trek and paired it with all those exciting moments of action I could think of. Four minutes of footage never took so long!

I'm here at UCSD in the Sun God Lounge making my update on a Mac. I apropriated this machine because that new motherboard is being a tad buggy. For some reason, I have no internet capability on my own computer, and I'm still reinstalling everything. So I need to go to school to check my e-mail. I really hope I get this fixed soon. In the meantime, it's just trying my patience.

In the madness that is the early morning shopping of the After-Thanksgiving sale at Fry's, I managed to snag a new Athlon 3200+ motherboard. Once this baby is installed, I should be able to capture video from my camera at 720 x 480 resolution, large enough for the tv screen. Then maybe my movies won't look so crappy, they'll just sound that way! Ironically, I just finished my last film in what is likely to be my last film class at UCSD. Oops.

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody. I'll be leaving in a few hours to drive to whichever relative's house is hosting the holiday this year. This morning, however, I got to celebrate a belated birthday with my family. I finally got a new DVD burner! Now maybe I can get rid of some of the bulk I've amassed on my hard drive, huh?

I ended up going to bed at about 2:45 this morning, playing a couple hours of LoTR: The Third Age with my roommate. That means I lasted from 10 am Monday morning to 2:45 am Wednesday morning on about 3 to 4 hours of sleep. I may have had a rather uneventful birthday, but at least I was awake for more of that birthday than of any of my others. Odd.

Anyways, just for laughs, here's the project I ended up turning in this week for Vis 1:

The image, of course, is a parody of the Apple "Switch" ads. The Boba Fett and EE-3 are mine, but the other blasters aren't. Two are from Master Replicas, but the DL-44 came from an old photo I found on this site. Just making sure I give credit where it's due.

Well, I've already gone through about half my birthday here. Luckily, I was awake for it! Unluckily, I was working on editing my video project all night. It's done, but it remains to be seen how well it is, or if I'll stay conscious enough to present it. I could only edit last night since I spent all of Sunday trying to get that damn capture card to work. And I can't go home today since I still have to present my weekly Vis 1 project. So, I'll have a pretty boring birthday, I'm guessing...

Bummer. I had hoped I could go home tomorrow and get a leg up on the Thanksgiving holiday, as well as be home on my birthday. That's not happening now, sadly. To be able to leave, I needed to present my Vis 1 project today. I tried to show, but we ran out of time, and now I'm stuck here until Wednesday night. I'm not too happy about that.

I dug out some more old photos from the depths of our house today. I even found a couple Disneyland ones I could submit to increase my miniscule odds of being featured in a tiny part of a photo collage poster to be displayed in the park. It's fun to whore myself out!

The plan for tomorrow is to see The Polar Express in Imax 3-D with my family and the grandparents on my dad's side as a sort of pre-birthday celebration. Yes, in case you forgot, I'll be 22 on Tuesday. Now all you need now is my SSN to complete that identity theft. I make it easy, don't I?

I get to drive back home tonight as I'll have a family party for my birthday on Saturday. Afterwards, I jet back down to San Diego to shoot my final video and edit it for its due date on Tuesday. Somewhere along the way, I have to do this week's Vis 1 project, too. And maybe see a play. We're coming to the end of the quarter, and things are starting to heat up!

Turns out my TA really liked my Vis 1 project this week. For those of you who care, and I doubt there's many of you, I took an image of Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat and badly morphed it into one of his World War II political cartoons. When I say badly morphed, I mean it in the sense that I'm bad at morphing things in Photoshop. Anyways, the whole point of this was to show that even someone as benign and higly thought of as Dr. Seuss could succumb to propoganda and the dehumanization of "The Enemy" during wartime. Apparently, my idea was quite "profound," in the words of my TA.

Not having a class to turn in this week's Vis 1 project on Monday simply meant that I put off doing it until tonight. I think I have a pretty decent idea, so we'll see how that turns out. In a week I have a film due, which I probably won't be able to shoot until Sunday. It's cutting it really close, but I think I can make it... otherwise, I'm screwed. In my stage management class, the project I have to turn in on Thursday I did this morning (I thought it was due today!), so I'm good on that front. And that's my update on my classes. We now return you to your regularly scheduled porn downloading.

Not much happened on Friday, which really doesn't explain why I forgot to post that day. Saturday we had a garage sale wherein we sold our entire NES for forty bucks. Forty bucks! They even got the Power Pad! Oh well. It wasn't my decision to sell it, mind you, but I suppose it was time I let it go.

I drove back to San Diego today, and I even got to sleep in since my 1 - 3 class was cancelled for the day. Other than that, I really don't have a whole hell of a lot to talk about, so I'm just gonna wrap this up.

I drove home about 10 this morning thanks to the school holiday which gave me a four day weekend. When I got home, I found out that my family was going to have a garage sale on Saturday, so my room is a total mess right now as I clean out my closet. I have way too much crap! But you already knew that, didn't you?

When Justin got in last night, he informed me that he had purchased Halo 2 and The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age. Now, people who know me know that I like video games; I'm just not very good at them nor do I have money in the budget for them. This doesn't reallly seem to be a problem for Justin. I mean, he's got a PS2 and X-Box, as well as his computer, and he always seems to get the games he wants when they're released. Well, both games have multiplayer mode, but I was interested in trying out what LotR was like. We ended up starting a new game and playing for five hours straight. We're gonna see if we can continue tonight. I think this is the first RPG I've ever played that felt so addictive. (And I'm no fan of RPG games!)

I read another script for my Vis 180B class today. Nobody really had any suggestions for me, which means one of two things: (a) my script is a lot better than I think it is, or (b) it's actually pretty terrible, but nobody wants to say anything. However, the teacher did say that he liked it, so I guess that's a good sign. I've got exactly two weeks before the finished film is due, so I'm going back home for the four day weekend to gather some props and hopefully some computer stuff that'll helpe me transfer the video better. I figure I'll shoot and edit this thing next week.

I stayed in San Diego over the weekend, so not much went on in the past few days. I presented my weekly project in Vis 1 with very little confidence, and received a crit pretty much commensurate with what I imagined. I did manage to hit up a comic book store and fill a few holes in my collection, so that was all well and good. Now I'm stuck here at my computer until I can come up with a 5 page script for my 180B class.

I just got back from watching The Incredibles. Oh. My. God. If all superhero movies were done like this, no one, and I mean no one, would scoff at the genre. This movie is fan-friggin'-tastic, and I recommend that everyone see it at least once. Twice, even. It's that great. Why are you still reading this?? Go! Watch!!

It just took me six minutes to schedule my classes next quarter. That is really a far cry from when I first started and it would take me damn near an hour to get it done. Then I had to worry about scheduling conflicts, prerequisites, available space, and waiting lists. Three years' work certainly has its benefits. I schedule sooner, and I get the classes I want. I can't believe it's this easy, and that I'm almost done.

What the fuck happened, America? You used to be so cool. Now you affirm a reactionary who has so polarized the country? Do you not pay attention to the news? Are you so opposed to the ideas of liberalism? Or did you just vote Republican out of spite? What the fuck happened?

I am trying as hard as I can to not get worked up about this election. And I am utterly failing. I didn't want Dubya in 2000, and four years have done little to change my view of the man. As I write this, he is in the lead. I desperately want him not to be. I may only be 21 years old, but I'm not too sure if my heart can take this.

I almost completely forgot about updating today. (I was workng on schoolwork, though, so I have a good excuse.) Friday was mostly spent driving around with Mike as he went looking for a last minute Halloween costume. Saturday, I got up early and mom and I dropped by Disneyland for a few hours so I could take some pictures for my weekly Vis 1 project. Later that day I drove down to Arthur's house (whom I hadn't seen since I graduated Troy!) for his Halloween party. It was a fun night of watching movies, spilling root beer, and being entirely too loud. Sunday, Halloween to those of you not paying attention, I started finalizing my Vis 1 project when I had to take a 4 1/2 hour "break" to install a headboard onto my grandmother's bed in East LA. This took four hours because we picked up the headboard at the Brea Mall, found it couldn't fit inside the Explorer, found we couldn't drive freeways with it attached to the roof, had to stop and tell the cops about a car accident we witnessed, and finally had to finesse the headboard onto grandma's irregularly shaped bedframe. I spent most of the rest of the night working on the project I had started, as well as watching Young Frankenstein.

Wow. How long has it been since I slipped in an imbedded link?

Anyways, I drove back to school this morning and am awaiting election day tomorrow with a healthy dose of nervousness.
