Phil's G.I. Joe Page

Wait... you're actually reading this?!

I managed to give myself a small burn on my finger yesterday. I was making some cookies from a mix my mom inexplicably bought me and accidentally touched the pan as I was pulling it out with the oven mitt. So now I've got this reddish-greenish-brown blister on my finger. And it's almost completely smooth, too, like I burned off the lines of my skin.

I went to target today to pick up some black clothing, which I'll have to wear as part of the tech crew. I ended up buying a crapload of G.I. Joe and Justice League Unlimited toys. Figures. I'm as impulsive as buyers come!

Today in tech rehearsal I did nothing. Well, almost nothing. I inventoried all the clothes for the actors I'm looking after, and that was it. Five minutes of actual work, followed by 5 hours and 55 minutes of sitting there. I'm told it'll get busier very soon, but truth be told, I kinda like not doing anything.

We started using costumes in tech rehearsal today. I'm actually the person responsible for assisting and maintaining the costumes for 5 actors. Most of the costume changes that occur in the play I have plenty of time to accomplish, but there is one point where I have 23 seconds to do a change. Fortunately for me, this change consists of changing a bowtie.

So I lucked out today. The rehearsal for the play didn't have any costuming so I got to go home after 3 hours instead of six. Hell, I'd still be there if we ran the whole time! And you know what? I'm actually a little excited about this. Our costuming group seems to be full of cool people. The time should go by faster when you get along with everyone.

Nothing much to report today. I mostly sat around the apartment watching TV, or playing "X-Men Legends" on Justin's X-Box. It's a fun little X-Men game which I would have bought had it been released on the PC. I even went out looking for it before I discovered it wasn't available for the computer!

I lost 40 minutes of time in my practicum class today because of stupid mistakes. Basically, all I had to do today was sew on 5 items onto a piece of cloth. For me, each item takes about 10-15 minutes. No biggie, I sew on the button clasp and hook fasteners like I'm supposed to, on two pieces of fabric to be connected by these. When I'm done, I see I sewed the connector pieces onto the wrong side of the cloth. This, after putting all the supplies away. I roll my eyes and get to work at fixing the problem. I finish about 20 minutes later and put my stuff away again. Only this time I forgot that I needed to switch around the two pieces I sewed on so that they'd match the connectors' locations on the other piece of cloth. It took me another 20 minutes to fix this. I just couldn't get this right!

I read a little of the "As You Like It" script between classes today in the bookstore. Actually, I read half of it. I'll read the other half tomorrow. Reading Shakespeare is always a little trying, but I suppose reading his comedies is easier on the brain than reading his tragedies. If the dialogue of the clown doesn't make any sense, well, it's not meant to. Still, word play in centuries-old dialogue gives me a headache after a while.

I drove back to San Diego today with a crapload of stuff. My practicum class requires that I attend every tech rehearsal and performance of "As You Like It," so I'm stuck down here for the next three weeks. Fortunately, I finally got that haircut I'd been putting off for weeks, and I bought enough frozen meals to subsist upon for a while. I also got some snacks, too, so I won't go out of my mind only eating bland food.

You know, I don't think I've actually stayed in San Diego longer than two weeks before driving back to Orange County. This should be an interesting experiment...

Wow, time flies on these holiday weekends. Well, not so much flies as I'm less enthusiastic about booting up my brother's computer to do a website update. Whatever. Most of the weekend I spent lounging around the house, but I did get to spend most of Friday at Disney's California Adventure with my brother. I guess it was only his second time at the park, so for once the majority of our trip to the Disneyland Resort was spent at this place. We got to the park at about 1:30 and, in the order that we went on them, we rode/saw Soarin' over California, Mulholland Madness, lunch at the Burger Invasion, Mike went solo on the Maliboomer, California Screamin', the tortilla place, Its Tough to be a Bug, Muppet Vision 3D, and Tower of Terror. This actually took a large chunk of time. So much so that we only went on the Matterhorn at Disneyland before going home around 6:00. Nota long day, but long enough for what we wanted to do. Nammy came over that night and dropped off some Vietnamese wine his dad picked up for my dad. Nammy stayed the night and went along with us to some wine tasting the next day. That's preety much the extent of my weekend.

Because I've got an 11:30 dentist appointment tomorrow morning, I drove back home tonight. Actually, I drove back home in the afternoon, as soon as I was done with class. I got caught in a little traffic, but nothing too bad.

I think I may be more or less done with my cold. Most of the symptoms have subsided, but I still get a plugged nose every once in a while. It's not great, but it's much better than it was.

My electronics class was moved halfway across campus to the new Pepper Canyon Hall to accommodate more students. This building's really been open for only a quarter, so most of the stuff is all spiffy and new. Our room is really cool. There are these five ascending rows of counters with chairs attached to them. These chairs swivel out from the bar they're connected to, and the chairs even have backs which can recline! It kinda vaguely remotely feels like being on some pedestal of power. They're kinda fun like that.

Whoops, I almost forgot to make an update today! I attended my first theater costuming practicum class today. After taking the 50 question safety test (based on a video we were to watch last week), we almost immediately jumped into our first assignment: learning three types of stitches. I have two hours of lab time this week to finish the stitching sample, but I already completed a third of it in the time I had in class. If you haven't figured it out already, I really don't know what this class will be like.

I'm either suffering some really bad allergies right now, or I've got a cold. I'm not running a temp, which is hopefully a good sign, but I do have a stuffed/runny nose, cough, and sneezing. The sore throat's already gone, but the sinus pressure tool its place. This started up over the weekend, so hopefully I'll be better in a day or two. Too bad the only medicine I have for this is generic Nyquil stuff. I need something for daytime.

Sorry for the lack of an update on Friday, I kinda got obsessed with playing Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude. In fact, it's pretty much eaten up my entire weekend. I was even playing the game when the power went out around 1:18 this morning, so I had a lot of stuff to redo from the last uncorrupted save.

Schoolwise, I'm officially in my theatre costume practicum now, so all I have to do is complete my three classes this quarter with passing grades (shouldn't be hard), and then I'll have a really easy final quarter of school.

I was in class for roughly 20 minutes today. My electronics lab only met to do roll call and we were excused, since our first assignment wouldn't be until next week. So I spent a lot of time watching TV and DVDs. Of course, that last part isn't really all that different from any other day. Well, to differentiate, my roommate wanted to go over to Tower Records and while we were there, the check-out cashier saw my Marvel Mania hat and remarked that Jim Lee had been there earlier in the day. I knew that Lee lived in the area, but it never really occurred to me that I would frequent one of the same stores he does. I'll have to keep an eye out.

Getting into the practicum class meant that I would lose two of my Wednesday lectures for my electronics class to attend the play my practicum class is focusing on. Now that I attended the first lecture, I've spoken to the teacher to let him know my problem and he's okay with it. I'll probably loan out my camera to a friend of mine in the class and have her tape the lecture for me. Should be interesting.

Hallelujah, I got into a practicum class! This means that I should hopefully finish up my minor this quarter, and I'll only need to take one class next quarter to finish up my major! I am so totally dropping the drawing class I signed up for so I wouldn't become a part-time student. This does create a few complications, but it's hopefully nothing I can't work out. I got into the costumes practicum, too, so I should be learning how to sew. Maybe I can work that knowledge into my 12" custom creations.

I just got back from my first day of classes for the quarter. I'll have three classes this quarter, but because of that theater class which admits by a lottery, I still don't know which three. I should by tomorrow, though. Today was the usual intro stuff, and luckily a three hour class only lasted 41 minutes because of it. I had to kill time before my next class, so I dropped into the bookstore to waste time and was quite glad I didn't have to buy anything today. There were some scary lines there, man.
