Random Thoughts for the Day, 'Cause I Couldn't Think of a Proper Post Topic:

- I've been checking out some of the referral URLs to my site. It's both funny and aggravating to see where the Cobra logo on my homepage is being hotlinked. It's the background image on one guy's site, an icon on another, and a random image post in a livejournal comment. Very strange.

- I've been getting some nice comments for my dio-story, so I've got that going for me.

- I saw Corpse Bride on Saturday. Very fun and visually stunning film. Go see it.

- Dad bought another two trashcans worth of grapes today, so we destemmed and crushed them once he brought them home. When will the madness end??

- Essential X-Men Vol. 6 finally came out, I discovered earlier today. It's been over a year since I got the last volume, so I'm happy to be able to read up on some more events. This one goes up to the first major crossover event of the X-Men's history, the Mutant Massacre. Since the powers-that-be at Marvel decided to put each comic book which was involved in this crossover into this volume, the page count is the highest yet for this particular line. The earlier volumes seem downright wimpy in comparison.

- Now I'm overlapping with my Essential books and my regular trade paperbacks of the X-Men. I'm considering buying trades of the earlier, important arcs for the better quality. Since I'm doing it already, why not go all-out?

So this last week saw a few changes in my life. Nothing life-threatening or disturbing, mind you, but changes, nonetheless. First of all, my UCSD e-mail account finally stopped working, so I am officially no longer a college student. (For the time being, anyways.) I'll still be keeping my ID for student discounts though, thank you very much. Secondly and more importantly, I started an internship at a casting agency in Beverly Hills. I'll be there two days a week, so I still get a lot of free time. I'm currently looking into getting another internship elsewhere to fill in the rest of the work week, but at the moment, I'm content with what I have. If I do decide to take on another internship, that could mean me moving out of my parents' home and into the house of my late grandmother. It's in the middle of East LA, but it cuts my commute in half.

I just got back from an internship interview over in Encino. I have another interview tomorrow in Beverly Hills, and one more Tuesday in Hollywood. If I get one of these, I may just get a tiny foot in the door. Who knows, maybe it'll grow. So that's what I've been up to job-wise, because I know a few people were starting to wonder.

It's slow going for my dio-story right now, but I am getting it done. The family stuff over the weekend and losing my website temporarily didn't help things, but the main reason for my slow pace has been the images itself. I didn't expect to be doing as much photoshopping as I am, frankly. And a lot of it is meant to go unnoticed. While I'm using a better digital camera than I did in my previous dio-story, it's still far from a "top of the line" camera. Getting the shots I want in focus is a small victory in and of itself. Often time I find myself photoshopping different elements and characters into one picture just to get the image I want. Now add to that my desire for some flash effects and space shots and some images can take around an hour to make each. It's definitely a long process, but I think the work I get out of it is much better. Plus I get to flex my photoshopping muscles, try some new things, and become even more familiar with the program. You'd think after 6 years I'd be a pro, right? Far from it. Thank goodness for online tutorials, though. Oh, there's one more thing hindering my progress: I don't have a story! I have random jokes that I find ways to string together. It was only just today that I made a joke I had in mind reworked into the ending. So now I know where I'm headed, just not how to get there. But that's part of the fun, right? Discovering where my mind takes me. Hopefully, I can pull out a few surprises.

My apologies to anyone who tried to access my site in the last few days and couldn't. Apparently I let the account payment lapse. Whoops. Anyways, I spent the last few days hanging out with my relatives, including my cousins from Idaho, since we were all getting together for a birthday party for my grandfather. The party took place yesterday and we saw my Idaho relatives off to the airport today. So that means that I didn't get anything done in the way of my dio-story, or anything else for that matter. Just a lot of driving to and from Huntington Beach, video gaming, and general laziness.

Man, how can it be September already? It seems like only yesterday I was putting together the plans for Comic Con. Oh well. On an unrelated note, I've been trying to get this thing started for over a year now, and I've finally done the first few pages of my new dio-story! Keep in mind it's still a work in progress, but if you want to check out what I have so far, click on my dio-story link at the side of the page, or click here.
