It's been a relatively uneventful Halloween for me. I got the oil changed in mom's car, bought an anime DVD, got a haircut, and watched tv. I don't really have anything else planned for the day, but I might go out later tonight. I did have some friends come over and hang out Saturday, so it's not like I've been totally antisocial.

I really didn't mention this back on Monday, mostly because I didn't think I could fill it out enough to be a full post, but also because I'm lazy. Amidst the heavy rainfall on Monday, it hailed at my house! I was sitting at my computer around 1 in the afternoon when suddenly there came some loud smacks from my window. I look up to see white little spheres accumulating on the roof in front of me! I took as few pictures of the street out front from the upstairs windows, but it wasn't until later that I saw the flooding occurring at the same time. You really couldn't see the street 20 feet away from my front door. When the rain calmed down enough I went outside to take some better photos of the hail that remained. It was kinda surreal. The fact that it took overnight to melt made it even bizarre. I think it may be the closest thing I'll see to snow here in the suburbs of Southern California.

I guess it's been a while since my last update. My internship is moving along as normal, except that now they've hired a few more interns for the office. The end result is that I'm not alone in the lobby for most of the day. Sure, the agents are only five feet from me, but it's nice to have someone next to me that I can talk to.

I'm still getting used to my contacts, but I'd like to think I'm getting better at getting them out and in. It doesn't take two hours now, more like five minutes, but I do still have the occasional hiccup. Take, for example, Monday night when I had trouble getting out the left lens. I think I ended up plucking my eyeball a few times trying to grab the lens. I finally got it off, but my eye was so red and so sore that I didn't wear the contacts at all on Tuesday. But I'm better now.

I finally got to wear contacts for the first time today, after failing to get both in on Wednesday. It's a weird feeling seeing things in focus without glasses after so many years needing them. I've wanted contacts for a while, but I just couldn't get them in. And the last two years the optometrist wouldn't even let me try them because of a persistent skin infection I had around my right eye. Well, it took me damn near two hours, but I got 'em in. And boy, did they sting. My eyes were already sore from the poking and prodding and the oils from my skin that ended up on the lenses didn't help. I was only supposed to wear them four hours today, increasing that amount as the days go by. However, while stuck in traffic on the 91 I rubbed my left eye and ended up knocking the left lens out. So I had to get off the freeway and into a parking lot with only one good eye. Yes, depth perception became an issue. It's a good thing I had my glasses with me or it could have been a very long time before I could drive again.

Everything is sore right now. Mom and I got up at 4 today. Why, you ask? Because there was a special event going on at Disneyland that only passholders and cast members were able to attend. Even then, the number was limited and we had no idea what was going on. It turns out that we were to be a part of as televised tribute to the Mouseketeers and we, all dressed in black, would become a set of giant Mickey Mouse ears. We were given a black shirt, a Mickey Mouse Club sticker and the regular ears. They also gave us a cheap black bag and some cheap gold pom-poms. The idea was that at a certain mark, we would all pull out the gold pom-poms and turn the black mouse ears gold. It was tough work with a lot of standing but we made it through alright. You can even see the video here. Afterwards we got a catered breakfast and were set loose in the park. Mom and I ended up hanging out with some other Disney friends from an online message board until near closing. And now my back, feet, and arms really hurt.

Happy birthday, Mike! (I just wanted to mention that before the day ended.)

Mom and I went to Disneyland today, but not to ride any of the attractions, really. Haunted Mansion Holiday opened up this weekend, to be sure, and both of us rode it before we left. But there was a merchandise event going on today celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Mickey Mouse Club. As part of the goings-on, ten of the original Mouseketeers showed up to answer questions and sign autographs. I knew mom would like this when I found out about it. She ended up waiting 4 and a half hours in the standby line to get their signatures. She finally did, too, after quite some time wondering if she would be allowed to get them.
