After work today I spent a few hours at Universal Studios. The park entrance is only about a five minute drive from work, so I've been wanting to go ever since I got my internship. Unfortunately, mom has the pass with the free parking, so it's not like I'll be dropping by for a few hours every afternoon. But I suppose it could conceivably become a regular hangout. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me to take any pictures. My uncle stayed overnight at the LA house while I was gone on Saturday and accidentally packed my camera with his things when he left. I had no problem with him staying over, after all, he is co-owner of the place with my mother, but he lives in Vegas, so it'll be a few days before UPS brings my camera back to me.

I think I've mentioned before why I like the park so much - that mom, grandma, and I could enjoy the park equally since the shows easily accommodated grandma and her failing health. We've had annual passes since the early 90s, before the Citywalk or even the current entrance layout. I've noted the changes over the years with a mild curiosity, occasionally disappointed with the loss of a show or attraction but nothing to get too upset about. Nothing until I walked around the Citywalk today.

The Citywalk seems to have a huge turnover rate, and at no time did this seem more evident than today. The last time I was in the park was December, but I didn't pay much attention to the shops. Walking down the mostly empty pathways, I am acutely aware of just how much is different, and how much change still occurs. I realize I don't want the change, knowing it's an impractical thought. But soon the park will be a very different place from the visits I had with my grandmother. Our last visit together was in December 2004, three months before her passing. Mom, grandma, and I ate dinner in the restaurant above Camacho's. I had bought an X-Men graphic novel and was reading it while waiting for food. Grandma just seemed glad to be out of the house. I know she really liked the park, in fact she mentioned to my mom going back there the day before she died. Walking around alone today, I realized how much I missed having her around, even if I did have to push her in her wheelchair most of the day. Even know, typing this up, I'm getting a little teary-eyed.

Well, coming back to LA just now I almost died. Right about where the citadel is, it looks like a wooden crate fell off the back of a truck and shattered on the ground, leaving debris in the two slow lanes. It's annoying but nothing too too bad. Anyways, I'm in the slow lane because my exit's coming up, but I'm going fast since there's no one in front of me for like, half a mile. I see the debris and start to slow down. Now, there's an SUV ahead of me in the lane to my left. He sees the debris and instead of slowing down, he decides to dodge it. By changing into my lane! No signal, no real slowing...

I can tell I'm going to hit this person because I can't slow down fast enough, so I swerve into the breakdown lane. The SUV driver finally notices me and slows down fast. Now, breakdown lanes aren't that wide and if I stay where I am I'm gonna hit the guardrail. So I swerve back into my lane just ahead of the SUV and manage to straighten out. And, by the way, I managed to do this all without skidding (which could have been disastrous). So I just made this seemingly perfect arc just well enough to avoid an accident with another car or a wreck of my own Jetta.

I should be more upset than I am, but I think I got a little adrenaline rush out of driving like a Hollywood stuntman with a car that by all rights should not have handled as well as it did.

I think I love my Jetta now.

Busy day today! Roger said he got invited to an advanced screening of the next animated Dreamworks film and invited Ken and me to come along for the showing in Brea. Well, it turns out Roger's never been to an advance screening outside of a college before, so he didn't get any tickets and we didn't see the film. No biggie, we had lunch in Brea, visited the soon-to-be-closed Toys 'R' Us, and did a little shopping at the mall. I picked up some used DVDs. Afterwards, I met up with mat where we went miniature golfing and did some bowling. Finished off the night watching Domino at his house. I never tire of Kiera without any clothes.

I had my first day of work at my new job today. We sorted out the schedule, so it appears I'm working five days a week. But the nice part is that it's only for about three or four hours a day. It's a very manageable schedule, even with all the reading I'm given. So I can go to work on Friday in LA, and still be home with more than enough time to catch Stargate on Friday back in Orange County.

Well hey now! Looks like I'm gainfully employed again starting next week. The interview I had this morning went quite well, and I accepted their offer to have me. It's still unpaid, sadly, but at least now I don't have to worry about feeling bad because I'm not doing anything for the rest of the week.

And speaking of the rest of the week, I'll be hanging out in Orange County watching my dog, if anyone wants to come on down and visit me.

Happy birthday mom, and happy Valentine's Day to the rest of the world! I rally have no plans for the night, sadly, but I do have another job interview tomorrow, so that's something. And I spent a few hours at Disneyland yesterday, so it's not like I never go outdoors. And I sound way too defensve in this post, don't I? Best to end it here then.

I had an interview this morning. Yeah, you read that right: an interview on a Sunday morning. And it was outside a Souplantation. Interesting experience. I've got another interview Wednesday morning and mom's birthday on Tuesday. Then I guess I'll be back home on Thursday to watch the dog. The parents are flying to Missouri to be present when Mike gets sworn in to join the Navy. He's doing it so they'll pay for med school, but he'll still be signing around 7 years of his life away to the government. Hopefully he'll get through it alright. So it's going to be a busy week all around.

Already a week into the month and I'm just now making my first post. Not a great start! But hey, it's all good, 'cause it's time once again for the Random Thought for the Day:

- In six days I'll have the fourth anniversary of my blog. That's kinda scary.

- In seven days it'll be mom's birthday. That's not scary, and I've even already bought her present!

- I got an airsoft FAMAS rifle from Fry's today. Sweet! Now I need to find a P-90, a Steyr Aug, and a Beretta, and I'll have a pretty kick ass collection of these things.

- And if I get an airsoft P-90 (assuming one exists), I can get to working on a Stargate costume!

- Yes, I'm still looking for a new internship. I had an interview today, but they couldn't accept me because I wouldn't have received any kind of college credit for it.
