We set up the cable to get HD channels now that we have an HD tv. Took a whole lot of rewiring on my part, but I think I got it right. One of our newer boxes isn't getting a signal, though, so who knows. Eh, the cable guy's coming out on Thursday to set up the internet connection anyways; I'll have him check it then.

Wes' funeral was on Thursday. The actual burial was only for family, but the church's ceremony had quite a few attendees. Most seemed to follow to the wake afterwards, so if nothing else, he was loved by his friends. There's some comfort in knowing that. I hope he knows that too, looking down from wherever he may now be.

What was for the most part a very happy day has ended in a bit of tragedy, I'm afraid. I wanted to talk about the new high-definition tv my parents got yesterday. Or getting Battlestar Galactica on dvd. Instead, I'm trying to find a way to respectfully word this. How can I type the news here without it being cheapened somehow, by being broadcast freely across the internet? This log is meant to be an archive of my thoughts and actions and the experiences I have faced. With that in mind, I cannot let this event go unsaid.

My father's cousin, battling cancer for the better part of a year now, passed away an hour ago. This is not wholly unexpected, as we were told he probably would have died within the week, but it is regrettable, none the less. We can take comfort knowing his suffering is over, at least. Wes, we hardly knew ye.

"Wherever we want to go, we'll go. That's what a ship is, you know. It's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails; that's what a ship needs… but what a ship is… what the Black Pearl really is… is freedom."
- Jack Sparrow

Anybody want to play pirate with me?

Happy St. Patrick's Day to those of you so inclined to celebrate it! It's a really low-key day for me today, but I am getting a good dose of Irish American history courtesy of the History Channel. Who knew the Irish mob was the oldest of our organized crime ethnicities? Ah well. Remember to wear green, everybody! Unless, of course, you like getting pinched. I'm told some people are into that kind of thing.

May I take a moment to geek out a bit here? What do I care what you say? It's my blog. Avert your eyes from the next paragraph if you're worried it's contagious or something. Here comes the geekiness!

Why the hell can't I find any Joes around here?? I must have gone to at least 10 different stores this past week alone and come up with one figure. Argh! Joes were never this popular! I could just about always go into a store and find what I was looking for. Sure, there may have been a way here or there that was difficult to locate, but never at this level! Insanity!

Dad wanted me to visit grandpa in the hospice just about every day this week, so I've been on a rather odd schedule. Rather than drive to and from LA every day and kill gas and time, I decided to make one-way trips every day. I'd get up in the morning in either the Orange County or LA house, drive out to the hospice, and drive to the other house when I left. So I was in OC Monday and Wednesday, but LA Tuesday and Thursday. And I'll be driving back into OC again tomorrow!
