I guess not being home for almost half the month could explain how July seems to have gone by so fast. At any rate, it seems that way. I've probably just been sitting around in front of the computer for longer than I care to admit to myself. Let's hope August proves as exciting as the past thirty-one days!

I guess the topic of the moment's been the earthquake we had here yesterday. Registered a 5.8, centered about 5 miles from Yorba Linda. A bit scary, that last part, but it's not the first earthquake to come out of here. I myself was in the LA house as it happened. It only knocked over three of my toys, but the experience itself was a bit odd. See, I was sitting in my chair, which has wheels on it. So the floor seemed to be moving a split-second before I did. Strange!

I'm back from con! Actually, I've been back home for a few hours now, but there's been a wine party going on here! Mike's around for a few hours before it's his turn to drive to San Diego. He's starting a month of rounds at the naval hospital there. I've been doing my best to stay conscious, at task I've met with only limited success. And it looks like tomorrow's going to be a big day filled with coding and photographing.

Hey now, this is my 1000th post! Woo hoo!

Unfortunately, I'm gonna spend it talking about nerd prom! Yep, I just spent a few hours at Preview Night for Comic Con International! I tried going after the exclusive toys first, but the Hasbro long got cut off because it was longer than hell. Pretty much like last year. Unlike last year, however, I got my Justice League Unlimited figures from Mattel without having to wait a few days for restocking! So at least I've got that going for me! Now I've just got to hit up approximately 5 million other booths for an ever increasing abundance of cool stuff.

I finally figured out a way to reliably back up my old VHS tapes to a digital format! It's an odd, three-step process that's probably a lot less painful than using my old capture card hooked up to a VCR. I don't think my computer's processor is quite fast enough to keep up its pace for long. Fortunately, I don't need it here.

We might not have ever gotten our DVD Recorder's time set right to record a tv show, but if I just set it to record straight-away, it's golden. So I awkwardly connect the VCR through the DVD recorder and play the tape, recording onto DVD as we go. Once that's done, I take the DVD to the computer, and convert the VOB file to MPEG using a program called MPEG Streamclip. Sounds confusing, I know, but once you get the program installed right, it's pretty painless. After conversion, I copy the file onto my external hard drive, and it's ready to go!

It's been awhile for me to unwind from the con. Not quite sure why that is. Maybe I'm still amazed that my crew got that amount of work done. Not that I doubt the abilities of my department, rather it just seems so unreal that so many projects could be coordinated enough to be completed. A reflection of my abilities as manager? I kinda doubt it. Anyways, there's still some more stuff to do - we're already deciding what videos to re-edit or outright redo, and there's a few more videos from Sunday to put up. And the Annual Staff Dinner's gonna need something from us, too!

So, hey, only eight days into the month before I post! At least I have something of an excuse this time. No internet access at AX! Couldn't even post about the fun and long hours I'd been pulling. But amazingly, we got our videos done! I am so jazzed about that I'm using outdated vocabulary. Monday I did come back home in the evening to internet access, but I was pretty wiped. I just didn't feel like blogging, y'know?
