Phil's G.I. Joe Page

Wait... you're actually reading this?!

Well, damn. I just learned that my local comic book store is closing. This is twice that this has happened to me, and evidence to support the fact that comic books are a dying industry. The owner of the store, though, said that he could connect me to a colleague's store on Beach Boulevard and Ball Road. It's located on an intersection with three stores I go to to look for vintage toys (read: G.I. Joe), so it's a little more centralized now, if not a little far away. Too bad, too. I always hate having to see a business I've frequented disappear.

Nothing much going on right now, other than today is payday at work (yay!) and that yesterday, I finally got a new 2-park annual pass for Disneyland. Oddly enough, my mom and I had annual passes to Universal and Disneyland for years that we let lapse only this year. Then we go and buy 'em again. It's like we can't live without 'em or something! I know these things stopped being incredibly useful to me when high school started and my junior high friends and I could no longer hang out in Disneyland for a day as a group. Man, I miss those times. I really wonder if I could call them up and arrange something like that again. I'm only missing contact with like, one person, so it is within the realm of possibility. But knowing how lazy I am....

Today I have to drive down to San Diego and check if any bills have arrived at the apartment. After that, I drive all the way back. It's really annoying to have to do so much for something so little. Hell, gas used for the trip will probably be more expensive than the bills!

I got my G.I. Joe convention set in the mail yesterday. Excuse me for a minute while I geek out.

Ok, there we go. So this set may be overpriced, but it's still sweet nonetheless. And the fact that there are only 499 sets left in the country makes it pretty cool, too. Too bad I didn't get that HiSS tank though. Stupid attendee-only exclusives!

Oh my god, Comic-Con was a blast. Not everyone could attend, which is a shame, but what we did there was great. I got to see Angelina Jolie get hit on by an innumerable amount of girls, I got to meet Scott Kurtz, and I even won a free R. Lee Ermy action figure by answering a trivia question as I passed by a booth. But the weirdest freebie of all has to be this: a 28 Days Later cookie! I'm kind of afraid to eat it....

So the phone tree is coming together and trying to work itself out right. It seems our get together for the con is a little more complex than I anticipated. Luckily, though, everyone seems to be doing their part to get this done. I hope it all ends up leaving everybody happy. I know I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on this thing.

Well, I've got Friday and Saturday off from work, so Comic Con is a go! This time, I'll actually be eager to drive back down to San Diego!

Thanks to a co-worker for pointing out some things that weren't working right after I reloaded the site in June. The guestbook and comments should be working now!

Hey all. It's getting time to start getting hyped up about the San Diego Comic Con! This year I'll be going Friday and Saturday (my job permitting...), and I already have a few friends lined up to accompany me. If we haven't spoken about the details and you'd like to come along too, drop me a line!

I'll be working at Edward's until 12:30 tonight. We box office cashiers usually don't have to work so late, but for some reason we have two midnight showings of Pirates of the Caribbean tonight. I don't know why we have two, I mean, The Two Towers only got one!

Two things to report today:

I saw Katie Holmes and Forest Whitaker in the Orange Circle today! Forest is directing a new movie called "First Daughter", and they should be there for the next two days if you wanna check it out. Thanks to Mike's PFD friend Sam for letting us eat with the crew at their catered lunch. Moochie-moochie!

Secondly, much thanks to Derek for finally configuring our LAN! We now can have more than one connection to the internet at a time. Woo-hoo!

I watched T3 yesterday with Mike before work. It was a pretty good movie, but I constantly kept thinking how Edward Furlong would be if he got to play John Connor again. And this movie had a really depressing ending that made me want to forget this movie and concentrate solely on the Terminator films that James Cameron had a part in; I mean, for cryin' out loud, he WROTE the first two!

Happy Fourth everybody.

A few hours ago I said goodbye to a big part of my childhood: my first house. Tomorrow morning we hand over the keys to the new owners. Yes, I said owners, we're no longer renting it out. There's a sense of finality here that I never felt when we rented out the house. It always seemed that we could go back if we wanted, but now we'll no longer have that option. Ok, now I'm just rambling. Farewell 18501 Tango Ave, we hardly knew ye.
