Man, I always seem to forget just how long my three hour classes last. Of course, I know they're three hours, but having to sit through them always takes a lot out of me. Not physically, mind you, but I get so damn bored sitting there I tend to tune out the lecture in favor of doodling on my desk in pencil. Followed immediately by erasing said doodle. Over and over. Maybe I'm just ADD.

It's only the third day of the quarter and I've already skipped class! To be fair, though, I only skipped that annoying 10 am lecture with what appeared to be a lot of writing assignments. It was first on my list of classes to drop, and after today's actions, it seems even more likely I'll do so. I ran around the theatre department tracking down how things were going along to get me into the advanced costuming practicum. Now I have a schedule for the class, and I've finally contacted the man who can get me registered for the class. So hopefully it won't be too much longer before I have a set schedule.

I just got back from having my senior portrait taken at the Price Center. It felt a little strange lugging my suit bag onto the cityshuttle and across campus, but hopefully my own embarrassment at doing so didn't show on my face. Now I'm sitting around waiting for my 6:30 - 9:30 class to start. It's one of the classes I'm taking to keep down the parents' insurance costs, but hopefully I can still have some fun anyways.

I drove back to San Diego in the slow-moving Easter traffic last night. I'm really quite amazed at how busy last week was. The funeral and related events pretty much took up all of Monday, and even a little of Tuesday as some relatives from out of town stuck around for brunch before taking off. After mom and I saw one of these relatives off on the train, we were determined to go to Universal Studios. Finally getting there through the progressively harder rain and worser traffic, our day at the park was hampered by the late hour and the bad weather. I did get to go on the last tram ride and on some of the indoor stuff since hardly anyone was there, though. Plus, we got some comp tickets as we exited to return in better weather. It's especially nice since I'm an annual passholder and didn't need them. Now we can bring some other people along! The next day mom and I went to Disneyland for a few hours before I went off to see a friend of mine. The day after mom and I again went to Disneyland for a few hours to ride some more stuff. When we got home, Nammy was there and waiting for me for our weekend trip to Vegas. I was there with Nammy, Mai, Miho, and Danny all weekend and didn't get back until around 12:30 yesterday. Highlights from that trip include going to Star Trek: The Experience and seeing Miho and Danny get married (!). As you can imagine, yesterday was very busy: I came back from Vegas, hosted family at the house for Easter dinner, and drove back down to San Diego.

We buried grandma today. The priest seemed a little on the strict side, but we made it through the funeral mass and the all-too-short cemetery service. I was feeling okay during the week, but seeing her casket today and her body at last night's viewing almost had me bawling. Even more disquieting was the fact that a picture I took of her last December at Universal Studios became the prominent picture of her displayed at the mortuary, and even pasted on her casket. I don't know if I was so upset by this because I don't think it's that great a picture, or simply because I took the picture. I spent the rest of the day with the extended family.

So I'm back home in Yorba Linda for the time being. I really don't have anything planned, aside from the funeral and a Vegas trip with some friends in a week. Call me up, I might be available! Well, not this Sunday and Monday, or next Thursday through Sunday.

I originally planned to drive back to school yesterday evening, but obviously things got a little hectic. I did drive back this morning, with plenty of time to attend my first final of the day. That was for an acting class, so I really wasn't concerned about it at all. My second one did have me a little worried about, but the fact that the final started at 7 in the evening, and I'm typing this now at 7:41 should indicate to you how well I feel I did. (Read: I thought it was easy.)

I've been putting off writing this for a couple of hours now. At about nine o'clock this morning, mom called me from her cell phone. Grandma Connie was rushed to the hospital in the ambulance earlier today. She didn't know what was wrong, but she expected she'd be at the hospital for the rest of the day. A half hour later, mom called again. Grandma Connie died in her sleep last night. She was 91 years old, but this still came as somewhat of a surprise. I mean, here was a woman who spent the last 15 years of her life living alone in her house in East LA. She broke her hip in September of 2003, but she had healed well enough that she moved back into her own home last fall. That didn't last long, though. In January, as she was staying in our house for the holidays, she suddenly had trouble breathing. She was suffering congenital heart failure, and some fluid had gotten into her lungs. She went back into a hospital where the doctors gave her some medication to get better. Last week we finally moved her into an assisted living home. Mom even saw her on the weekend.

Needless to say, it's been an odd day for me. I still have Finals tomorrow that I have to prepare for, but I think I can put it off until tonight when I'm back in San Diego. I've been thinking back to all the time mom and I took grandma to Universal Studios, and how she still has an annual pass. We were last there in December. Since Universal is more shows than rides, it's still a theme park grandma could enjoy. I wanted to go there last weekend, too, with mom and grandma, if possible. That's not possible now.

I spent a few hours at Disneyland today and went on the new Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters. The ride doesn't officially open until Thursday, so it was nice to be able to be in the preview, as it were. If you don't know the ride, you're in a slow moving car with a laser gun, trying to hit targets along the way. My score was 150,300: not great when you consider the high score for the day was over a million, but not too bad for a first time, I think.

Today I've been spending some time with the home computers. First I moved the black computer that has for months rested in Mike's room back to the office. Then I started getting my old computer up and running again. Dad finally sprung for a video card for it so it could become usable again. Of course, the changes I put the hard drive through when changing motherboards last November did cause a few problems. Most were simply pointing the computer in the direction of its own hard drive files again, but I still can't get it to connect to the internet. Once I can fix that, we'll have another nifty computer running in the house here. I think dad wants to put it out in his wine shed and pull out the really slow and essentially useless one he already has in there.

So I'm back home until Tuesday night (theoretically). The drive home I took earlier than usual because I wanted to make sure that I caught the Episode III trailer on Fox tonight. It took way too long. I had to avoid a few car wrecks and make a side trip onto some streets I didn't know all that well. But I did make it home alive! Now maybe I can enjoy my free time until my finals, huh?

I just finished my electronics final project. It's not as great I would like it to be, but it still gets the job done. Once I present it to my TA tomorrow, I can go back to my apartment and drive home. Since I only have finals on Wednesday, I won't leave for San Diego until Tuesday night. Then come Thursday morning, I'll be on Spring Break!

Because every guy needs to know this at some part, I present to you a paper on how to tie various tie knots. Oddly enough, I found it in the costume shop.

I actually got a lot of work done this weekend. On Friday I finished up my second tie for the costuming practicum. It was a little strange doing the tie in my apartment, since I didn't have access to an iron, and only had limited sewing supplies to work with. I encountered a few snags, but I think I managed to do a good job. Saturday I spent telling myself I'd get to work in just a little bit, without actually starting. But on Sunday I actually did get working. In addition to completing two short papers due this week, I figured out how to get my electronics final working and starting soldering it together. That actually took up the bulk of my day. I worked on it some more tonight, and I'm now halfway done. It's slow moving, yes, but at least it's getting done. Oh, and I managed to burn myself about fifteen minutes ago. Good times, good times.

I've discovered perhaps the bizarrest official incarnation of Stargate to date: SG-3000. It's apparently a simulator ride that's in a couple Six Flags theme parks across the country. It looks a little odd, to be sure, and the storyline seems very out-of-continuity, but still, it'd be fun to experience just once. That being said, I think I'd like a REAL Stargate ride, complete with an animatronic SG-1. That, my friends, would rock.

I haven't quite grasped how to get my electronics project to work yet, but I dd figure out a nifty way to get my speaker to start smoking! Yeah, I'm a little scared, too. How many other pieces am I gonna bust before I get this right??

The quarter's coming to a close, and suddenly I have a few short papers to write up! Two are only a page long, and the third is only three pages long, so it shouldn't be too bad to get them done, but it's still an annoyance to deal with them. My tie's coming along quite nicely, as I think I have a pretty good handle on this project. The same can't be said for my electronics final project, sadly. I really feel lost trying to wire together all these resistors and lasers and not burn them out! I really hope I can get this to work.

Nothing much going on today for me. I started sewing together the second tie for my costuming practicum, though. Rally, the big, important stuff that's happening is my roommate Justin's doing. One of his films was due today in class. Apparently it didn't go over too well because his actors let the jokes in the script fall flat. He could see it coming, too. It's always hard to endure bad reviews, but it's worse when you agree with them.
