Mike finally got a new car yesterday. Ironically enough, it's a Ford Explorer. Four door, tan, and with less mileage, but an Explorer nonetheless. Now I'm half-tempted to mail him his "I'd rather be driving Code 3" license plate frame. It's still on his Escort, which, I guess, has now become my Escort. Anyone know how to drive stick?

Two things to note today: Dad got the new Explorer on Tuesday and I got to drive it around today. It's always weird driving a new car, since I don't have a feel for its capabilities, I tend to push on the brake too hard of the gas too soft. Why I was driving the new car today brings me to my next point. I finally sold off all those toys I cleaned out of my closet earlier in the summer. I didn't get nearly what I wanted for them, but the point was really just to get them out of the house, so I accomplished that much at least.

I got back from Missouri yesterday after four days in a pleasant little town that I wouldn't necessarily want to live in. The biggest revelation while we were there was that Mike needed a new car. It seems the trailer we rented for the move fishtailed out of control while driving outside of Wichita, flipping over and spinning around enough to wreck the Explorer. No one was hurt in the accident, luckily, but the car's been declared a wreck by the insurance company.

I forgot to add that I'll be in Missouri from Thursday morning until Monday evening. Mike has his med school induction ceremony on Saturday that the family and I will be attending. So for the next few days I'll be at the exact center of the middle of nowhere.

Mike drove off to Missouri with the Explorer; he could fit more stuff in that than in his Escort. So now we transferred ownership around on those cars, just because it's easier. To that end, my parents have started car hunting again to get another car capable of hauling anything around. Well today they finally settled on another Explorer and did the whole haggling thing. The car's still being detailed so we don't actually have it yet. Unfortunately, my Jetta is essentially worthless as a trade-in, but we'll apparently find some other way of getting rid of it. My car's days are numbered, soon I'll have to learn how to drive the Escort well! Damn manual transmissions...!

During the middle of packing yesterday, Mike made the observation that he was probably moving out of the house for the last time. I added in that it was only theoretically so, but his accuracy at the moment is not in question. We loaded up the rented trailer with most of the large appliances he'd need in his new Missouri house yesterday before his going away party. The rest we loaded into the Explorer and what little space remained of the trailer this morning. The family and Wendy sat down for one last Sunday brunch before we hugged our goodbyes before Mike drove off, a resident of our home no more.

The family and I got back from Hawaii around twenty after four this morning. I promptly went to bed when we got home, so it pretty much is yesterday to me. Hawaii was a lot of fun, a lot of driving, and a lot of sunshine. Got to ride in a helicopter, see some lava, buy some Macadamia nuts, and snorkel with turtles. Fun experience, but I'm glad to be home. Now to play catch up with all the websites I frequent.
