I'm recovering from an incredibly busy weekend. I went home Thursday night, thinking mom and dad were taking off for their weekend wine trip that day, but I was mistaken. They left the next morning while I slept in. I spent a few hours waiting around for Ken and Nammy to show up and we caught an afternoon showing of X-Men 3. After, we went to Mai's CSUF Convocation ceremony before Nammy and I drove off to Westwood to pick up those UCSB girls again. They spent the weekend at my house, and while they waited around on Saturday morning, Nammy, Ken, and I went to Mai's graduation ceremony. That over and done with, we got the girls with us and at lunch with everybody. Some shopping ensued afterwards, and Nammy took off with the girls while I picked up Mike and his girlfriend from the airort. I ate dinner with them in Newport and finished off the night watching DVDs. Sunday was barbeque day in celebration of Mai's graduation, so a bunch of us came to my house, where we played video games and attempted to deal with the overabundance of food we purchased. The girls took the train back Monday around noon, and it was some more TV watching until the parents came back that night.

Oh, and in case nobody noticed, I finally put up a guestbook last night! It's taken far, far too long for me to get one back up and running, but now it's done. All the functionality of my former Topcities page has been restored in this webpage. Well, no not really. My old e-mail page was much nicer than my current one, but whatever.

Dad finally finished up his four week wine course from Disney's California Adventure. Even in the midst of some bizarre work scheduling, he kept going, fighting off sleep and his employers. Of course, this also meant that I was at the parks on those days, so I've been seeing an awful lot of Disney lately. It'll be a nice break this week not to go. I know, it sounds weird coming from me, and since Mike and his girlfriend will be by this way over the weekend, I may yet again end up back there. Only time will tell.

This weekend I found myself at Disneyland both days. Nammy had some exchange student friends of his in town so we showed them around the park, as it was their first time. We ended up doing 17 attractions, I think, and staying until park closing, a rarity for me. Sunday I attended a Micechat meet, and ended with a Mother's Day dinner at the Napa Rose. Very tiring weekend all around, but some nice memories to show for it.

Saturday was a very busy day, made moreso by unexpected delays and last minute additions. But to fully explain, I have to go back to Friday night. Mai, Nammy, and Ken dropped by to hang out as usual, except this time Nammy and Mai cooked dinner. We watched some movies, Nammy left for a bit to do ice-skating, and Ken went home. Nammy and Mai spent the night because Saturday was Free Comic Book Day! We all wanted the free Jack O'Neill Stargate figure, so we scoped out a nearby store participating in the event to visit.

We got up early Saturday morning and decided to take my car. Friday, dad found a letter saying I was overdue for a smog check, and I figured I could fit it into the schedule without much fuss. We drove to the comic book store in Brea, only to find it didn't open until noon. Having about 90 minutes to kill, we decided to check out the EP Ripley at the Fullerton Railroad Days. The EP Ripley is one of 5 steam engines at Disneyland, so being able to walk right up to it and even peer inside the engine room was a nice rarity. Walking around and finding some neat things to see, we saw we still had about 90 minutes to kill. We then ate lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory and headed back to Brea. Well, the comic book store had free comics, but no O'Neill for some reason. It was time to drop Mai off at her dorm, so we headed to Cal State Fullerton.

In her room, we looked up some other comic stores and found one that had some O'Neills in stock. Since it was only a mile or two away, Mai followed us in her car, and we all three got the figure. Mai took off from there. Here is where I planned to get the smog check, especially since it was literally across the street. Unfortunately, I left the paperwork at home. I drove back home with Nammy to get the papers and we drove back to the smog check place. Fortunately, this went very quickly and we were out of there and on our way to Disneyland without delay.

Our main purpose there was to check out the changes to the Haunted Mansion. We saw the really cool new effects and our itinerary was more or less complete. We also took the monorail, riding up front, rode the train, and took the free tour in the Disney Gallery. Our day there more or less complete, we ate dinner at the Storyteller's Cafe and went back to my home. A Few hours of video gaming later, and Nammy went home, my big day now over.

I actually ended up skipping work today. Now don't get me wrong, I had every intention to go. In fact, I was on my way and in traffic on the 5. But then the engine died. I figured maybe I hit clutch too late while braking. No biggie, since I've done it a lot learning how to drive with the stick shift. But then the engine won't turn over. I try again and again, putting the gear in neutral and first. Nothing happens. Slightly panicking, I try unlocking the alarm from my keychain and turn on the hazards. Still nothing. If it's the keys, then I could use the reset button in the car itself. I press it, get a wimpering beep in reply, but still the engine won't start. I try pushing the car to the breakdown lane, since I was in the slow lane to begin with. Won't budge. Really worried now, and with the alarm half-heartedly going off I try to stay calm. I finally get the alarm off when I notice the hazard lights are off. It dawns on me then that the battery went. I try pushing the car to the breakdown lane again, and thankfully it moves this time.

Now I'm safely in the breakdown lane, without anyone behind me to get pissed that I wasn't moving. I try calling Triple A and my dad, wondering why the phone won't work. About five minutes later I realize the phone is still connected to my earpiece, which fell off a few minutes ago. I find the earpiece and disconnect it and try Triple A again. As I'm wading through the automated responses, a Metro Freeway Service Patrol car pulls up behind me. Hanging up the phone, I walk over to the Metro guy and explain the trouble.

He gives my battery a jump and the car starts. Good, right? Just to be sure, I turn off the engine and attempt a restart. Nothing. So it's either the battery or the alternator. The Metro guy tows me off the freeway and puts in a call to Triple A for me. Triple A comes and picks me up from the gas station I'm now at and drives me to a Ford dealership. There dad shows up and we find out after some time that it's both the alternator and the battery.

Now I'm back in the LA house typing this, waiting for Ford to call and tell me when the $600 worth of repairs are done. Then I have to call dad at work to drive me back to the dealership. Fun day, huh? Good thing my boss understood my problems and let me have the day off.

What... wait-- Hey! Huh? Yep, I've actually done an update to the web site. I actually got off my lazy but and updated my e-mail page. It's been embarassingly long since I've had it up, so I'm glad I at least have something working on there. Yeah, it's not as nice or elaborate as my old Topcities one, but it'll get the job done. (If you pay attention to the text, that is.) Now to get to work on that guestbook...! Heh heh, yeah... Maybe it'll be done sometime by 2009, right?
