Having seen both Conan movies over the weekend, I'm kind of in the mood for some more Sword and Sorcery yarns. I was half tempted to buy the DVDs of Red Sonja and Kull the Conqueror when I was at Fry's yesterday, and I'm seriously considering buying the collections of Robert E. Howard's Conan stories. But you know what I really want now? A video of the Conan stunt show from Universal Studios Hollywood. One of my favorite shows from the park, with really cool stage design and some fun effects. Oh, and I'd love top be able to watch episodes of the animated Conan the Adventurer tv show again!

I've been rather unhappy with my latest digital camera. There are a few upgrades from my previous one (higher megapixels, video recording, only needing 2 AA batteries instead of 4) but they don't make up for the fact that the camera just doesn't take very good pictures. Of course, it was only after I got it that I really found out the importance of the CCD chip. Chalk it up as a learning experience - avoid no-name brand cameras on sale at Kohl's. That said, I saw an ad in the weekly Fry's circular for a cheap 5 mp Canon Powershot camera. So, comparable stats to my current camera, uses the same memory card as my current one, and from an actual camera company. It even came with a free camera kit. Needless to say, I bought it. And, having just tested it out, I'm glad I did.

Very busy day today! The folks aren't yet home, and I'm about to watch Conan the Barbarian on DVD (Wal-Mart had both movies bundled together cheap). To briefly recap:

I met up with Mai around 9:30 in the morning and we drove to LA to see the Star Wars exhibit at the ScienCenter in Exposition Park. We really weren't interested in any of the science stuff (kinda negating the point of the show, but whatever) and loved all the costumes and models on display there. We went through it kind of quickly, just long enough to get pictures of all of the movie stuff. We then went off to lunch across the street at a Chipotle. Next door was a Cold Stone Creamery, so we had a little dessert there. Back to Exposition Park to walk around the Natural History Museum - fun as always, and Mai's first time there, too. As an aside, Exposition Park has really changed since I was last there! The Imax has moved, the surrounding buildings are different, the science museum is different, and there's construction everywhere! After that we drove to Frank and Son's, then the AI arcade, then the comic book store at Beach and Ball. At this point Nammy called to hang out with us at the Anaheim Ice rink. Mai and I had a quick dinner of Weinerschnitzel before driving to the ice rink. Stayed there until 9 before going home. I just got in 10 minutes ago!

The parents are off tonight and most of tomorrow seeing Mike in San Diego. He's in town on Navy-related business and mom and dad drove down tonight to see a Dodgers vs. Padres baseball game. I was invited, too, but couldn't get off work early enough to make the trip down with them. Besides, I'm gonna go to Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination at the California ScienCenter tomorrow. It's its last weekend!

It's Time for Another Installment of Random Thoughts for the Day:

- Roger moved out of the LA house over the weekend. I'm wishing him luck Seriously, 2+ years in a country with sections potentially hostile to Americans? He is a braver man than I.

- We're moving offices at work tomorrow. I'm kinda in charge of it, and I'm completely unsure of what I'm doing. What else is new?

- I bought Marvel: Ultimate Alliance for my PC two weeks ago. It's pretty much been taking up and any all of my free time in the LA house since then. I'm almost done, I swear! Of course, then I have to unlock everything....

So what started as a crappy morning has actually started to make me smile. I set my alarm clock off 12 hours for this morning so I woke up about an hour and 20 minutes late. D'oh! Of course, I still had plenty of time to make the drive to the office, but today I needed to go to the mailbox in Beverly Hills. Lucky for me, traffic was a little lighter than normal so I wasn't too too late to the office. And you know what? There were a few perks - listening to Quentin Tarantino on Rick Dees, and bumping into Richard Hatch on an elevator. Yeah, Richard Hatch. In the parking structure where I park to get to the mailbox. I think he knew I recognized him by my failed attempts at suppressing a grin. He acted quite cordial to me, in a bemused sort of way.

So I ended up out of the house about 14 hours yesterday. Stopped by Ken's place at noon. We watched Bowfinger before I had to leave at 1:30. From there I drove to Mai's house to arrive at 2:00. Waiting a few minutes for Nammy and Min to arrive, we drove into Torrance to go karaokeing until about 7. Then back to around Westminster to eat dinner at Kappo Honda before splitting off at 10. Knowing Ken would still be up, I drove to his house again. We and a few of his college friends then decided to catch an 11:30 showing of Blades of Glory at the Block. Finally got back home around 2 in the morning to find the parents still awake and back from their trip. I got to bed a little bit later. Busy, busy day.
